WBUR-produced programming
(See also the bookmarks on
the
aq.org home page.)
WBUR, one of the two major
National Public Radio stations in my area (the other one being
WGBH), produces a lot of really good programming. Here are some
links to some of the web sites for those shows:
-
The Connection
A talk show, mainly focussing on current events, with a call-in
segment. This was always great, but I found its original host's
interviewing style somewhat grating, and since he left the show
in a dispute with management sometime in 2001, I've liked it even
more. Dick Gordon does a great job.
-
Inside Out
(new)
An hour-long show exploring one topic in depth each week.
-
On Point
This started out as
Special Coverage after the 9/11 attacks, but was such a great show that 'BUR
kept it long-term. It's a talk show that focusses on breaking
news - much like
The Connection's more newsy shows, but discussing events of the last few days
(or even of today - it's an evening show). (As with
The Connection, it occasionally carries soft-news features, but less often.)
The host is Tom Ashbrook, and the show generally includes commentary
by Jack Beatty (sp?) of
The Atlantic Monthly.

Chinwag Theater
Chinwag Theater is a great show with Daniel Pinkwater reading
his children's stories and discussing them with Scott Simon.
They have a great time. If you haven't heard Daniel Pinkwater
speak, you're in for a treat!
And on WAMU...
