Online and computer games
These are only games which you can actually either play online
or download and run on your computer. For sites where you can
buy games (mainly board games), see my `Other ecommerce bookmarks'.
-
Deanimator is a Flash game where you shoot zombies. (If you click “Story”
you can get to the text of six H. P. Lovecraft stories.)
- Even better:
Flying Spaghetti Monster: The Game
-
Pogo Swing!
(new) is a flash game where you’re a kit on a playground trying to
swing as high and jump as far as you can, to earn money to buy
upgrades like higher swingsets or pogo sticks.
-
Famous Objects from Classic Movies
(new) is a quiz on, basically, that.
- Color Physics has you click to create a force which pushes
coloured balls and blocks around; your goal is to get all the
red and blue blocks into the corresponding red and blue goals.
- In the cute Flash platformer
K.O.L.M., you’re a little robot looking for its missing pieces while being
taunted by its mother.
-
Shift is a Flash game where you can rotate and invert the playing
field
-
Solipskier is a skiing game with a twist — you’re controlling the mountain,
not the skier.
-
Block Tetris lets you play tetris with apartment buildings.
-
Boggs is a game in which you’re a baseball star in a bar, trying
to drink beer, give moustache rides, and avoid frou-frou girly
drinks. Highbrow it’s not.

Javaquarius (Looney Labs'
Aquarius implemented in Java) is at
http://www.wunderland.com/WTS/Kory/JavaGames/Javaquarius/. You need a Java-capable web browser to play. I couldn't
get that version to work, but there's another one at
www.wunderland.com/WTS/Kory/JavaGames/Javaquarius/index2.html that works for me under Netscape.
-
Douglas Adams
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy adventure game in Java (playable in web browsers)
-
Tenés Empanadas Graciela is a freeware clone of
Plan Táctico y Estratégica de la Guerra (TEG), itself based loosely on RISK. It's a multiplayer networked
game (although there's a bot, so you can play against the computer)
with a GNOME client. It's hosted on Sourceforge at
http://teg.sourceforge.net/.
- There's a
Settlers of Catan beta in Java at
http://www.nand.net/jsettlers/devel/
(new URL). This is an online adaptation of Mayfair Games' excellent
board game
Settlers of Catan. You can also download the .jar file and run your own server.
-
Bill Kendrick has some CGI-and-image based web games up at
http://www.billsgames.com/.
-
The Telescope Game at
http://www.dyson.co.uk/game/play.asp is a nifty little puzzle game in Flash.
